ABB supports growing wind power market in China

ABB支持中國發(fā)展風(fēng)力發(fā)電市場(chǎng)

2006-10-18 - China invests more money in renewable energy than any other country, and a significant amount is being spent to develop wind power. If present trends continue, China could become the world’s biggest wind power market by 2020, with help from ABB.

Two of the most recent wind power schemes to be announced are the 150 megawatt (MW) Jiangsu Rudong wind park near Shanghai, and the 100 MW Jilin Tongyu wind power project in northeastern China.

ABB’s scope of supply includes compact secondary substations, distribution transformers and ring main units (RMUs) for Jiangsu Rudong, and tamper-resistant padmounted transformers for Jilin Tongyu.

ABB is unique in offering high-end 35 kV RMUs in China, a new technology that brings robust reliability to a demanding switchgear application.

According to the U.S.-based Worldwatch Institute, China invested some $6 billion in renewable energy (excluding hydropower) in 2005 out of a global total of $38 billion, making it the world’s leading investor in renewable energy.

About $600 million of this went into wind power. Renewable energy is forecast to make up ten percent of China’s generating capacity by 2010, rising to 20 percent by 2020. Some authorities, like the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association, expect China to become the world’s biggest wind power market by 2020.
