NI Announces LabVIEW Compatibility Program

August 7, 2007 -- National Instruments (NI)announced a new program to validate that third-party products are compatible with the National Instruments LabVIEW graphical programming environment.

Beginning in August, companies can verify their products are compatible with NI LabVIEW using requirements provided by National Instruments. Once companies meet the requirements and their application for the Compatible with LabVIEW Program (Program) is approved by NI, they receive the new Compatible with LabVIEW logo subject to the terms of the Program agreement. NI is establishing the Program to help customers make more informed purchasing decisions and take the guesswork out of selecting new technology.

“LabVIEW has evolved into a premier integrated design, control and test platform for desktop, industrial and embedded applications, and the popularity of the platform has grown tremendously,” said Jack Barber, manager of the National Instruments Alliance Partner program. “There are virtually thousands of products claiming to be compatible with LabVIEW and by providing compatibility standards, we can help customers narrow their searches and choose the tools that best meet their needs. Additionally, this program encourages third-party vendors to produce high-quality products and offers them an opportunity to differentiate themselves from the competition.”

To participate in the program, companies can download the Compatible with LabVIEW Guidelines from www.ni.com/labviewtools and compare their products against a checklist of requirements. The guidelines include specifications on documentation, style and function. For example, APIs must use consistent control styles, and virtual instrument libraries must be present on the palettes and organized appropriately. After evaluating their products, companies submit their completed checklists to National Instruments for evaluation. After confirming the requirements have been met and approving the product (which is at National Instruments’ discretion), National Instruments provides the Compatible with LabVIEW logo to the company for placement on its qualifying product and packaging.

Furthermore, National Instruments recognizes the Compatible with LabVIEW products on the LabVIEW Tools Network, providing a single Internet source for LabVIEW users searching for products related to LabVIEW. Customers can start looking for the Compatible with LabVIEW logo on products later this year.
