ABB launches newest paint robot in Berlin

Joining ABB’s global paint management team in the German capital was Tormod Gunleiksrud, managing director of ABB’s robot factory in Bryne, Norway, and the vice president sales and marketing, Udo Grohmann.

In Berlin, Grohmann unveiled the latest news from Bryne - a new car body painting robot called the FlexPainter IRB 5500, and a new generation of rotary atomizers.

This combination of ABB technology paints a car body faster than today’s industrial standard, while maintaining the highest level of quality and reducing paint losses to a minimum.

The Berlin conference attracted more than 220 paint experts from all over the world, including auto manufacturers, material and system suppliers and service providers.

Here they could see the FlexPainter IRB 5500, and learn that in addition to speed, reduced paint losses and high quality results, the robot is designed for tighter installation. That means less spray booth space is needed on the production line, while customers can maintain production volumes with fewer painting robots and associated equipment.

“The IRB 5500 is a tailor-made painting solution for the automotive industry,” Grohmann explained. “With its fast acceleration and unique design, we have pushed back the boundaries of auto body painting technology. The FlexPainter is cost cutting in practice.”
